Greetings, traveler

Here you shall see a preview of some aspects of the Real Britannia Map Project. Contained here are some sketches, mock-ups and concept ideas.

The Real Britannia project is being done to "correct" the inaccurate map that comes with Ultima Online. Back about four years ago, when I first looked at my cloth map of UO, I was surprised at all the changes from the historical Ultima games. Some islands were missing, others were completely new. Some islands had changed radically, and huge portions of the main landmass were also substantially changed. In some cases, major land features jumped across the continent (such as the desert). The Shrines and Moongates were often way out of place. There was even a Shrine of Spirituality on Britannia, when any Ultima fan knows that it should be in the Void.

While the land had the same general shape, and the names of places were often the same, it quickly became obvious that Ultima Online had little to do with Ultima.

So feel free to check out this attempt to put some of the Ultima back into UO. The Real Britannia map is a completely new map. You'll not find one bit of the original UO map here (except on a custom version being done for the Ultima Legacy server). Using a variety of tools - Dragon, Xuri's World Builder, and WorldForge - I am quite literally building the new map from the ground up. It is not an easy task. At least, not if I want to make it a quality endeavour. Often some compromises have to be made. Sometimes for gameplay, sometimes for limitations of the UO engine. Some changes are done for the sake of logic (such as adding a more realistic amount of farms).

If you like what you see here, great. If you have comments, ideas, or even criticisms, I'll gladly listen. If all you want to do is complain, tell it to the Guardian.
