Just a quick note. My series once named "Mama's Attitude" is forced to be renamed. Another artist has a copywrite on the name "Momma's Attitude." She has threated me with a lawsuit. Therefore, the series will now be referred to as "Attitude." Please know I still give mad props to all the Mothers out there, the strong womyn, and most of all my own Mom.
Peace.
P.S.- When did pottery start becoming such a territorial thing...I thought we were earth lovin' peaceful folks?!!!!

Oh yeah, I am trying to relocate to the Big Island of HAWAII!!! Does anyone know of potters on the dry side?

Busy busy busy. Seems like everything in life goes in cycles. I am beginning to work on my lesson plans for teaching high school. My ceramics room is a slow process of cleaning, organizing and rearranging. (How cool is it that I have my OWN room...like I am an adult or something!) So, I am getting really excited about teaching. I want to be a good teacher - on top of it and together. We will see how it all works out.
Things at the Tempe Arts Center are kicking. I have a large class of 15 teens in my ceramics class. Some return students and lots of new people. They think I am crazy and laugh at me all the time. (If I had a teacher like me, I would be laughing as well)
I tested a bunch of new glazes for the community studio. This will be the first session using them. No doubt there will be lots of glaze runs and shelves to grind, but it is worth it.
On a personal note, I went to the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival last weekend. A wonderful vacation...camping, music, and fun with thousands of people. I am still trying to get my head back together after all the excitement.
As if I don't have enough on my plate, I am pondering opening a retail store with a few other "functional artist." It is hard to get artists to sign their name on a dotted line and commit. Could be a wonderful thing, though.
I will be in Atlanta to have a sale in my hometown in October....but a note on your calendar and look for more info.
Thanks and peace.

Lots and lots going on here. I have updated my website with new work...as requested by many, I have a series of the Mama's Attitude listed. They are going fast. Thanks to all who have purchased my work.
The last month has been busy interviewing for jobs. I am proud to announce my new position as ceramics teacher for Metro Arts High School in Phoenix. I will be teaching two or three ceramics classes as well as revamping the program. My good fortune has also blessed me with a residency through the City of Tempe. I will be a roving art teacher for the district teaching about Japanese ceramic techniques to 4th and 5th graders. This program also includes a free studio space. YEAH!!! My tech job at the Tempe Arts Center will also continue. Yes, next year is going to be crazy busy, but I am very honored and excited.
So, Let me know what you think about the new work. Thanks for your interest and support your local art scene.
Peace.

Sorry I have been out of touch. Lots going on here. I just got back from the Ceramics conference in Baltimore. It was wonderful to be reunited with old friends and teachers. There were many exciting shows around the greater Baltimore area. I can't wait for the weekend to get back in the studio. Just wanted to say hello. If you live in the Atlanta area, I took a new shipment of work to the Swan Coach House Gallery last week. Check it out.

So, I glazed the carved tiles. I am not so excited about them after all. Mmmm, back to the drawing board on that idea. However, thanks to all of your feedback, I have been in the studio. Many people commented on the piece "Mama's Attitude." I am currently working a series based on that form.
I am excited and motivated. YEEHAW
We are on the count down for the CRC Studio Tour this weekend. If you are in AZ come visit me in Beth Shook's studio in Gilbert. (If you want directions, email me)
I have also decided to attend the clay conference, NCECA (www.nceca.net), this year. I have been serveral times, but not for a few years. I am hoping to find a job somewhere as an assistant to a potter. I am also still looking at graduate school options.

Sunday February 6, 2005

Below I have added some old drawings. These represent the clash of subconscious and functional pottery I would like to achieve. As I mentioned before, I am carving this type of imagery on clay tiles. I will include them in a few weeks.

Thank you all who have already given me feedback on the website and art work.

Greetings. OK, so, the site is not finished yet, but I just wanted to get something published to the web. In regards to my work, I REALLY want to work on adding content to my ceramics. The functional thing is fun, but I want to add more of my subconscious to the surface design. I know some of you are afraid of my subconscious, and yes, you should be. So, I am working some ideas on tile pieces.

However, I have a show coming up the last weekend in February with the Ceramic Research Center Studio Tour. If you are interested, check out the media blip below...

Phoenix area's 4th annual Ceramic Studio Tour to be a Feast for the Eyes

TEMPE, Ariz. - More than 40 ceramic artists, many with regional and

national prominence, will participate in the 4th Annual Self-Guided

Ceramic Studio Tour organized by the Artists Advisory Committee of the

Arizona State University Art Museum's Ceramics Research Center, from 10

a.m. to 4 p.m., Feb. 26 and 27, 2005.  A preview showing and sale of

selected works by tour artists will take place on Friday, Feb. 25 from

7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Ceramics Research Center.

Several newly selected artists will join already established artists for

this exciting tour.  Artists will exhibit and sell their work at private

studios across the Phoenix metropolitan area.  Each studio will host

between 1 and 10 artists.

The annual self-guided studio tour attracts visitors who vary from

ceramics aficionados to those who have never purchased ceramics other

than mugs and bowls. The preview reception and tour are free to members

of the public, who can buy items, or just window shop and enjoy the

demonstrations.

Tour participants have the unique opportunity to meet the artists

face-to-face and go behind-the-scenes to see where the art is created.

Artists captivate visitors with wheel throwing, hand building and

glazing demonstrations throughout the two-day tour.  Some studios will

hold a drawing for a free handmade ceramic gift.  Volunteers who

coordinated past tours reported overwhelmingly positive feedback from

visitors.

For more information about the 4th Annual Self-Guided Ceramic Studio

Tour, members of the public should call the ASU Art Museum at (480)
