Illinois Central Gulf 50' Airslide Covered Hopper

In the 1972 merger, the Illinois Central Gulf inherited several series of General American 50' Airslide Covered Hoppers. The Airslide hoppers were generally used for bulk shipment of dry, granular, or powdered commodities. These included flour, sugar, resin, clay, etc. Some of these cars were repainted into the 1972 I-ball scheme, as shown above. The cars were painted orange and received black & white lettering.
These cars lasted through the ICG era in this scheme, well into the 1990s. This decal set includes all of the data you need to decal one car. It is designed to be used with the Walther's 50' Airslide model. Those of you wanting to model later repaints in the simplified scheme can use the initials from my ICG General Freight Set .
Appropriate car numbers are:
ICG 782500-782599 (Ex IC 59200-59299, Built
1966)
ICG 782600-782645 (Ex GM&O 85000-85045,
Built 1964-68)
Note: This set now includes slightly "stretched" 8-foot ICG emblems to match the ribs of the Walthers Airslide Hopper. That is why the emblems below appear to be slightly oval in shape. Once laid on the car across the ribs, the oval will take on the normal circle shape.
A decal diagram is included. This set is printed in black and white.
Many thanks to Tom Mann for his extensive assistance with the research for this set. It only took me 3 years Tom!
