Since my ordination in July of 2004, those who seek me out for spiritual counseling no longer pay a set fee for my services,
but make a donation instead. This was my choice to make, but was not a requirement, and because I made that choice, clients
may receive a tax deduction for the amount of their donation that is above the fair market value of the service they receive,
which I've determined to be $80/hour.
I ask those who work with me to understand that this ministry is both my calling
and my primary means of support and to thoughtfully consider this when deciding how much to donate. I request that they donate
at the fair market level if at all possible - and I never turn anyone away who cannot afford to do so.
Those who
cannot afford to donate beyond that level cannot legally claim a tax deduction, although technically speaking, it is up to
them to determine the fair market value of what they receive. For those who make donations and do not receive services in
exchange, the full amount of their donation is deductible.
