As an artist of many persuasions, photography is my primary passion. It all started
many years ago when I was in college and a good friend told me that I would grow up to be a photographer and even gave me
my first completely manual SLR. Although I worked in medical research for many years, photography was an integral part of
every position I held. I learned to work in the darkroom before I ever really started to take photographs seriously and soon
found mysself shooting literally thousands of images for medical journals, presentations and documentation. Much of my work
was through various kinds of microscopes, in the operating room, in the studio and documenting events. That was what I did
to earn money, but being an artist and loving the darkroom experience, my attention often drifted towards fine art photography
in my spare time. I did the art show circuit in Florida during the mid '80's and really enjoyed interfacing with all
of the people. Soon I found myself shooting models and entertainers, and, drawing on all of my scientific photography experience,
started shooting products for catalogs and 3 dimensional art for artists to document their work. Every time I shot a wedding
for a friend I was told that I should really consider concentrating on photographing people. Somewhere in there I took the
opportunity to be a photography instructor for a national commercial studio where I found that I really did enjoy photographing
people, especially brides and children. However, the extremely fast pace in that environment left little time for creativity
in lighting during a sitting. It was then that I vowed that I would someday have my own studio and my own darkroom where
I could take all the time that I wanted and to live in a place that was beautiful and lent itself to outdoor portraiture as
well. So, here I am doing exactly what I love to do.
