Ribbon roses can be easily made in miniature using any ribbon that glues well.  While traditional sewn ribbon techniques can be adapted to miniature size, glued roses work at least as well and it is probably easier to keep them in scale when you glue.

A simple tool which is used consists of a fork made from the eye end of a tapestry needle stuck into a dowel or other handle.

Apply a drop of glue

Put a dot of glue at one end of a small piece of ribbon.

Lay in the fork of the tool.

Lay that end of the ribbon in the fork of the tool.

Roll ribbon around tool.

Roll the ribbon around the tool by turning the tool.

Fold down to form a petal.

Fold the ribbon down to form a petal.

Add glue.

Place a dot of glue at the base of the opposite side of the rolled ribbon bud.

Roll tool

Roll the tool so that the turned down edge of the folded ribbon meets the dot of glue.

Fold the ribbon down again to form the next petal.

Apply glue

Place a dot of glue beneath the first petal.

Roll a petal.

Gently roll so that another petal is formed.

wrap petal

To make a rosebud, only wrap two or three petals.

Cut ribbon a little away from the rose.

Glue the end to the bottom of the rosebud.

Larger rose

To make a fuller rose, wrap several additional petals in the same manner, cut the ribbon a little away from the tool.

Glue the cut end.

Glue the end to the bottom of the rosebud.

Make as many roses as you need and attach by gluing or sewing to your project.  This will work well with ribbon made from any natural fiber.
