Pup covers were cut from the same material as the body - 2 years after the body was built.

walnut_jazz_6.jpg
Trademark single screw cover plate
walnut_jazz_7.jpg
The body was finished with Formby's Tung oil finish over an amber shellac pore filler. The first attempt at clear coating was a failure as the gun and compressor ceased at the same time requiring a complete removal and reapplication of the clear coat before buffing out.

Steve Harris Tribute
HCB #006

steve_harris_1.jpg
This bass is based on an Essex PB-62 body and neck. BadAss II bridge, aluminum nut, Schaller tuners, Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder pickup, Fender pickguard, all stainless steel hardware.
steve_harris_2.jpg
Handmade phenolic knobs to match the pickguard
steve_harris_3.jpg
The logo was designed with a Def Leppard font from abstractfonts.com. I was attempting to do something along the lines of the "Eddie" logo on the originals, without infringing on anyone's turf. The name came from the client.

steve_harris_4.jpg

Rounded fret ends ala Marcus Miller's Jazz basses.

steve_harris_5.jpg

Fully shielded control cavities

steve_harris_6.jpg

A first attempt at this idea. A heavy metal bass should be put together better than the usual instrument and that's what I attempted here. Threaded steel inserts were installed to use with stainless steel machine screws - same as the neck.

The result was perfect!
