"In 2086, 2 peaceful aliens journey to Earth, seeking our help.
In return, they give us the plans for our first hyperdrive,
allowing mankind to open the doors to the stars. We have
assembled a team of unique individuals to protect Earth and our
allies; courageous pioneers committed to the highest ideals of
justice and dedicated to preserving law and order across the
new frontier.
These are the adventures of the Galaxy Rangers!"
This series is, quite literally, a space western...with all that
implies. Don't forget...a western is actually one of the most
versatile of story-telling mediums. We have a group of special
lawmen (and Niko :-)) whose job is to enforce the law out on the
frontier. The stories range from straight adventure to comedy
to character studies (e.g. Gooseman's past as a Super Trooper).
To coin a phrase...these are the Galaxy Rangers:
- Captain Zachary Fox - the leader of this squad. He has a
personal grudge against the Queen of the Crown, but does
not let it get in the way of his responsibilities.
SERIES 5: A bionic arm capable of an energy blast.
- Walter 'Doc' Hartman - the hacker of the group. He is a man
who doesn't take much seriously, but he is very good at
what he does. Computer systems are his specialty.
SERIES 5: The ability to create energy programs which can
invade other computer systems.
- Shane Gooseman - I like to think of him as the archtypical
western hero as portrayed by Clint Eastwood. He has the
mannerisms, look and voice to match a 'tough guy' image.
SERIES 5: The ability to metamorph into any other life-
form...many who don't really exist. Gooseman
is an all-in-one organic weapon.
- Niko - The only female member of the group. She often falls
into a support role, but has the sense to see things
clearly...an ability respected by the rest of the team.
SERIES 5: Niko is a psychic with demonstrated powers of
clairvoyance, telekinesis and an ability to see
visions of the future.
NOTE: Why is this in the Anime Pocket Guide? On occasion, I'll
see a posting praising it (and there's a lot to praise), THEN
I'll see a question asking what anime it's based on. For the
record: there is *NO* anime connection to this series. This
doesn't prevent me from recommending it though... :-)
