On June 21, 2005, we lost our dear friend and drummer, Barry Lamonte Ward.
Barry was born in October 1947. He graduated from Montebello High School in 1966.
All during Jr. High and High school, Barry played drums with the marching and dance bands, including Montebello
High Schools premier dance band, "The Esquires"
In the early 1960s, Barry joined a band led by Mike Aversa called "Mickey and the Cavaliers". Eventually,
the band became known as "Mickey and the Invaders".
In the late 1960s, Barry played a brief time with Three Dog Night, but eventually returned to the Invaders...
who were now called "The Mike James Quintet".
In 1969, the band, under the management of disk jockey's Humble Harve and Charlie O'Donnell, signed with UNI
Records and changed their name to Dyna-Might.
Over the years, the band recorded and released several 45 RPM records.
The band kept the name Dyna-Might until they broke up in 1977. Barry went on to have a very successful
pool maintenance & construction business, "Sea Wind Pool & Spa"
Barry is survived by his mother & father, Alice & Bob Ward, his sister and her husband, Roberta &
Bob Boice, and many nieces and nephews, all of Idaho.
I hope you enjoy the pictures of Barry with the various bands. Featured in the photos below are band
members from several eras: Nancy, Donna, & Lonnie Grah; Dave Irwin; Denny & Linda Robinson; Pat Richardson; Sonny
Lathrop; John Ortiz, Simon Casas, Mario Sosa, Nick Bradley, Mike Aversa, and of course our friend and band support, Greg Shupe!
Barry will be sorely missed by all his friends and family.
