Dad remembers a horse named "Dolly" and a one horse buggy with Fringe all the way around the top.
My grandfather had a terrific garden. He always planted and worked the garden by the Moon. Used the Farmer's or Grier's Almanac constantly. He would sit in his chair on the back porch with his Almanac and was always sharpening his pocket knife. He kept a whetstone and oil by his chair.
The tast of a hot tomatoe pulled from the vine and consumed in the garden still linger in my mind to this day. Also the taste of the Pears on his pear tree and the taste of pear preserve on a hot grandma's biscuit.
And not to forget the taste of plums from the group of trees in the middle of the pasture where we had to time the run from the side to the trees so as not to be caught by the mean bull he had. As a boy I kept a small thumb size Morton salt shaker in my pocket at all times when at their house on Main Street in Acworth, Georgia.
My grandfather believed in getting his hair cut, having an operation or minor procedure and cutting wood by the signs of the Moon and the Farmers almanac. He said that Bleeding was affected by the moon. You would have less bleeding on certain signs than others.
The Weldons lived next door to Grandparents in Acworth. Margaret Weldon and Dudley Weldon.
