Movies
New Releases
Movie Title: The Lake House
Movie Rating: PG
My Grade: A+
Review: It's not a romantic comedy, as Q says, but a 'Romantic Drama.' While parts of it do make you giggle ("Morgan? That's a sexy name!"), other parts are very serious. Yes, the plot is based around a magic mailbox, but that's not the point! You get over that and just enjoy the movie. Sandra Bullock (as a doctor) and Keanu Reeves (as an architect) are great in this movie, too.

Movie Title: The Break-Up
Movie Rating: PG 13
My Grade: C+
Review: The fact that this movie was advertised as a comedy was pretty decitful (That's why it only gets a C+).
Like 'Lake House' (see above), this movie is more 'dramatic' than funny. I didn't like how serious all the fight scenes were. They were really going after each other a couple of times there~ I walked out of the movie thinking "I liked it, but why?" It left me a little confused, and the endding was a bit disapointing. One highlight (for me) was Vincent D'Onofrio from 'Law and Order: CI' as Vince Vaughn's brother.

Old Releases
Movie Title: Ice Age: The Meltdown
Movie Rating: PG
My Grade: B-
Review: Cute, entertaining, great cast, but really probably not as good as the orginal (when are sequels ever really good?). One things for sure: it's a better movie than most other recent animated releses (Into the Wild? Doogel? No thank you~)

Movie Title: Lucky Number Slevien
Movie Rating: R
My Grade: A-
Review: (First off, I would like to forbid Phil and Ash from seeing this movie, because of certain content that gives it the R rating~) Now then, this acually is a really good movie. The beginning is painful and slow (and weird), but once the plots start to unfold, it becomes an engaging story. What could be better than rival mobsters who live across the street from each other? The set designs are cool but rather annoying (visually) at times. My fav part of the movie? Lucy Liu.

Music
Home Grown
Album: Stand Still, Look Pretty
Artist/Band: The Wreckers
My Grade: B+
Review: This is Michelle Branch and Jessica Harp's new band. It's different from Michelle's past work, becuz it's COUNTRY. I am a strict anti-country kinda girl, but I enjoyed this album. Some tracks are very country (none of the songs are super-twangy country), but some are a bit more like Michelle's pop-rock. If you're a fan of Michelle, or country music, you'll enjoy this.

Album: Chaotic Resolve
Artist/Band: Plumb
My Grade: B
Review: Now I can grade it! Whoo! After getting "Blush (Only You)" as a free download off iTunes, I decided, what the heck, and got the album. And it's pretty good. iTunes compares Plumb to Evanescence, and it does have that same sort of sound...except it's uplifting (*gasp!*). There are fun songs like "Blush" that are very happy, pick-me-up, girly songs, and then there are songs like "I Can't Do This" that are life-sucks-get-over-it songs. And then the random "I Have Nothing" song, which sort of reminds me of Utada's "You Make Me Want to Be A Man" in that the title doesn't make sense/sucks and destracts you from what the song is really about~ But that's just me. It's an interesting album, but preview it before you buy it.

Album: Telegraph
Artist/Band: Drake Bell
My Grade: D-
Review: Although I LOVE Drake, his music really isn't anything great. "Found A Way"(the theme song of his TV show Drake and Josh), "Somehow", and "Don't Preach" are the only songs I really like. For some reason, most of the other tracks have all these strange things going on in them...like half-way through a song, the tune will change completely, and then you hear Drake and his band talking for about 30 seconds. It's acually REALLY annoying, because half the songs seem to do that. Sorry Drake, the album stinks.

Foreign Language
Album: DEEP RIVER
Artist/Band: Utada Hikaru
My Grade: A+
Review: If you like japanese pop music (J-Pop) then go to Amazon.com right now and order this CD! Utada's got a great voice and often mixs English lyrics in with the main Japanese ones. Not to metion she writes all her own songs! This CD has a few remixs of other songs, including "FINAL DISTANCE", a slower, less pop version of the song "DISTANCE" from the album of the same name. There's also a all-Japanese version of "Simple and Clean" (orginally all-Enlish lyrics). Other highlights include "travelin'" and "TokyoNights".

Album: Do The Best
Artist/Band: Do As Infinity
My Grade: A+
Review: Another Japanese band. The woman's voice is beautiful, and as far as I can tell, the gitarist does backup singing on some of the tracks (but he's a wicked good gitarist!). I think this could be considered J-Rock. You can't let the first track fool you, either (it's sung entirly in really bad English). My fav song is probably "Desire", but this CD also includes the ultra-popular "Deep Forest" (loosely translated), aka "Fukai Mori". It's a really great album and truly a must-have. But that's just me~
