Knitting Jackpot
I was ridiculously lucky this Christmas and received amazing gifts. I also hit the knitting jackpot:
My brother gave me the Elizabeth Zimmermann
Knitting Glossary DVD and my dad gave me the Knitting Workshop
video set and
book. I am soooooooo excited. My friend Kim and I watched part of the DVD last night and it's awesome. I will
review it at a later date but let's just say that I could easily learn several new cast-on methods in an evening. Kim
gave me the book
AlterKNITS and the
Knitting: A Novel. Thank you Santa : )

It's mini
So I had to try the sweater ornament from
Last Minute Knitted Gifts with the Rowanspun 4-Ply that I ordered recently. I was going to make one for my FIL when I realized that colors that
I picked were Ohio State colors. Change of plan. I decided to make it for my dad instead who is one of several
alums in the family. I used intarsia for the letter, but any more I make will be with duplicate stitch....it was just
too much trouble. All I need is a mini hanger : )
Yarn: Rowanspun 4-Ply in Siren
Needles: US3

Almost done...
...with mohair shawl. It's one of those knits that starts of great because there aren't too many stitches and you
reach row 15 and are all excited because you're a third of the way there. Then suddenly there are a whole bunch of yarn
overs that don't add up and you're working with 130 stitches. Oy. At least I only have 3 rows left....

Book Previews
If you like book previews and here are a couple of new ones:
---the Casual Cabled sweater is kinda cool
---don't see anything here worth justifying the book
---loved and own the first book designed by Jane Ellison but don't see anything
outstanding here

Too-day I am 33 "jeers" old
(That's from
The Three Amigos, and I can finally say it). It's another trip to the fondue restaurant. Yes, that's what I have been doing
for my birthday for a good ten years now. You just can't go wrong with melted cheese. So were off to
Forever Fondue in Mission Valley tonight.
Usually birthday's make me pensive and this year is no exception, although this year, I'm actually doing something I
like and want to be doing: working at a landscape architecture firm. Birthdays also make me think of the unresolved
things in my life, like whether I want to have kids or not. I still don't know.
Will I ever be more organized? Is the time I spending
reading/worrying about organization worth it? Is losing 10 pounds going to really make any difference?
And of course there's knitting worry? Do I complete enough projects? Is it okay that my hobby, as my husband
suggested, is to start knitting projects. Who says I have to finish any? No one but me. Based on my guilt
over my large stash.
Snce I have a half day today, I figure I'll do a little mall shopping since I almost never go. Perhaps with a stop
at a book store for knitting book review and coffee, and a stop at my LYS....shopping without guilt ; ) And on that
note, a pic of some of my recent purchases. No guilt here--I've decided looking at magazines is a good enough hobby
in itself!
