Our clean up /restoration efforts began in the Spring 2004 and is the direct result of the tireless energy and dedication of a very small group of volunteers and generous support from others who care about the cemetery and its condition. Below are photos taken after the first mowing in early 2004 which depicts the overgrowth and damage due to years of vandalism, weather, soil erosion, and neglect.

The project:
  • Phase I: Remove trash, cans & bottles, and old floral arrangements;  Cut back border trees and shrubs; remove bushes, stumps, and shrubs growing between and among stones; Trim & cut lawn throughout summer months; Determine status of cemetery company & records; Post sign with Rules & Regs; Raise funds to purchase riding and push mower for use by volunteers
  • Phase II: Address safety and repairs issues; repair as many stones as possible; level grounds; fill sink holes; remove large trees and shrubs obscuring stones and diseased trees.  This will require additional donations.
  • Phase III (will require grant funding pending analysis of corporate status)  Erect a security fence/ wall; install lighting; reinforce narrow roadway; reinforce back wall and establish back exit for hearse;  Hire caretaker:  Wish list:  Establish walkways and plant new shrubbery/ flower garden in center circle
  • Phase IV:  Examine the records collected to date to determine claims to burial spaces.  Can we determine how many deed holders still intend to be buried there?  Decide the future for this historic cemetery.
