AWARDS AND MEDALS RECEIVED DURING  WWII

  1.  Navy Good Conduct Medal.
  2. American Campaign Medal.
  3. European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal.
  4. Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal.
  5. World War II Victory Medal.
  6. Philippines Liberation Medal.
  7. Gallant Ship Unit Citation Ribbon Bar and letter.   
  8. Letter of Commendation from the U.S. Chief of Naval Personnel .
  9. Letter of Congratulations from the British Admiralty and Prime Minister.
  10. The Russian Government gave him a bonus in the amount of one months pay for his participation in the sea battle.

Letter of Commendation from the Chief of U.S. Naval Personnel

On November 11, 1943, Gunner's mate second class Richard Lowe of San Antonio, Texas was awarded a commendation for "conspicuous courage, tenacity and fighting spirit" in a colorful Armistice Day ceremony at the Armed Guard center, New Orleans, Captain John C. Thom, U.S. Naval Commadant of the U. S. Naval Personnel.
 
This Letter of Commendation was awarded to Richard Lowe for his performance during the Murmansk Run, PQ-18.
