Librarian's Suggestions for Summer and Recreational Reading '09

 

 


 

Due:  Wednesday, January 16, 2008.  One grade lower for each day late.  The last day to present is during Finals -- (periods 3 & 4 – 1/24/08, periods 5 & 6 – 1/25/08)

 

v     Select an appropriate health-related topic that you and a partner would like to investigate. 

v     In order to use the school’s computers to connect to the Internet you must display your I.D. card with an Internet Use permission sticker.

v     Gather information from two or more resources and create a Power Point presentation.

v     It must have a title slide including the name(s) of the creators of the presentation, at least 10 content slides including visual effects for a majority of the slides, and a slide at the end listing your resources for a total of at least 12 slides.

v     With your partner present your Power Point presentation to the class.

v     You may work alone if you prefer to do so, but usually two heads are better than one.

v     Your Power Point project must be saved on the school’s H: drive.

v     Points will be deducted for incorrect grammar and spelling.

1)      Move the mouse around.  If the computer is not on, then press the large button on the tower.  Then press the following buttons simultaneously:  Ctrl-Alt-Del and Log On.

 

2)      Click and hold on Start - Programs – Microsoft PowerPoint.

3)      Choose Blank Presentation – click OK.

 

4)      Click on the first slide.

 

5)      Type your title and by whom in the spaces that the slide provides.

 

6)      Save frequently to the school’s H: drive or to a flashdrive or hard drive if you are at home:  Choose File – “Save As …” – pull down arrow – “your name” on Pscofso2/Home… – type in the File name you want to save it under.

 

7)      Click on Insert – New Slide.

 

8)      Click on the second slide or whatever kind of slide you want and do your typing.

 

9)      Click on Insert – New Slide and continue in this manner.  Save often and before logging off.

 

10)  For Backgrounds:  (below are two types which you may or may not want to combine)

a)      Click on Format – Apply Design Template – then choose from the many different choices.

b)      Click on Format – Background – click on the down arrow – Fill Effects – then choose from the various types.  You’ll just have to try different many different possibilities here because there are so many choices.

 

11)  Pictures:  (below are two different ways)

(a)    Click on Insert – Picture – Clip Art, choose and click on a picture - Insert. It can be moved around and/or enlarged by clicking on it.

(b)   Click on Internet Explorer icon – www.dogpile.com – click on images – type in topic – if it comes up, click on “Show me the multimedia results” – click on Go Fetch!                OR – www.google.com.vn – click on 2nd link – type in topic.

(i)      Find a picture you want to insert.

(ii)    Right click on the picture – Copy

(iii)   Go to the PowerPoint slide and right click – Paste

 

12)  To Animate Your Words:  Click on the part you want to animate – Slide show – Custom animation – Effects – Choose the type of Entry – Choose the type of sound – Choose Introduce Text – Preview – OK.  For automatic timing, choose Timing – under Start Animation, choose Animate and select how you want it.

 

13)  (Don’t Use – speakers on laptop aren’t loud enough) Music from a CD:  (below are two ways)

(a)    Click on Insert – Movies and Sounds – Sound from CD audio track – select the track (song) and the start and end times – click OK.

(b)   Click on Start – Programs – Accessories – Entertainment – Sound Recorder.

 

14)  (Don’t Use – speakers on laptop aren’t loud enough) To Record Your Own Voice: click on Insert – Movies and Sounds – Record Sound – click on the red dot and speak into the microphone.  When finished click on the blue square.

 

15)  To make artistic looking words:  Click on Insert – Picture – WordArt

 

16)  To print your own planning sheet:  Click on File – Print – Print what: Slides – down arrow – Handouts - 6 slides per page - OK.
