Directions
Carlyle Lake is located about 70 miles east of St. Louis,
Missouri, in the middle of the dreaded Southwest Illinois Triangle,
i.e. the triangle made up of the intersections of Interstates
70, 64 and 57. The Lotus Camp Site is a semi-secluded camp site
near the Coles Creek Campground on the southeast side of Carlyle
Lake.
From the west, cranium east I-64, I-70, or Hwy 50.
- Hwy 50: goes right into the town of Carlyle. Turn right
(south) on rte 127.
Then turn left on Hwy 50.
- I-70: exit on rte 127 (Greenville exit) going south.
Turn left (east) on Hwy 50 in Carlyle.
- I-64: exit on rte 127 going north. Turn right (east)
on Hwy 50 in Carlyle.
From the east, cranium west on I-64 or I-70.
- I-70: exit on rte 127 (Greenville exit) going south.
Turn left (east) on Hwy 50 in Carlyle.
- I-64: exit on rte 127 going north. Turn right (east)
on Hwy 50 in Carlyle.
From the south or north, cranium up or down I-55 to I-64
or I-70, or if you're on
I-57, get off on Hwy 50 going west (for the Blue Hen guys: that's
towards the sun in the afternoon)
From Hwy 50, turn north on County Hwy 3. There's a fork
in the road about 3.5 miles north of Hwy 50. Take the left fork
(it dips down), make a left at the stop sign, and continue west
on county road 1700N. After the road turns south again, the entrance
to the Coles Creek Campground is about a half mile down on the
right. Turn right into Coles Creek, then take the first road on
the right , the Lotus campsite is at the end of the road.
Campground Facilities
There are 10 elevated 4-bunk (very small bunks if your name
is Yeastiality) cabins. There is ample room if you want to bring
your own tents and sleep on the ground or other person in your
tent.
There is running water and a bathroom (outhouse really) at the
camp site. There is an enclosed shelter with running water and
electricity, and picnic tables in case inclement weather forces
us indoors to eat. There are also a fire pit (for jumping over
naked) and two grills for our use. Showers are available down
by the beach/lake, and there is a spigot adjacent to the enclosure.
