Events and Announcements
Updated 3/6/08

Class questionnaire and an updated syllabus will be sent to registered users on March 17th.

Please email me at amejiadi@austincc.edu if you not receive an email and/or were not able to access the Blackboard site.

Thanks.

Please purchase these two books:

Abrams, Rhonda, The Successful Business Plan: Secrets and Strategies, 4th Edition, 2003.

Carlson, Mim, Winning Grants Step-by-Step, 2002.

Familarize yourself with the format of the two texts and complete and return the class contact sheet and introduce yourself using the discussion section of blackboard.

You will also want to think about selecting the business and/or nonprofit that you want to focus on in completing the exercises for this course.

This will be the project that you will write about all semester, so choose an organization or cause you have a passion for or a business you want to build!

The organization may be real or invented, but I recommend using a real idea or business as a base. In the past, some students have struggled with the fictional projects. Every proposal should be original and include appropriate citations for all references.

On the grant-writing front, I really encourage you to go to select an organization to work with as a volunteer. I usually know of a couple of groups who could use some assistance and will be happy to refer you.

I will use the class bulletin board page to post your selections as you make them, so that we will all know what everyone is working on this semester.

Online Grants Resources:

Federal Government Resources

An Internet grants management portal serving the grantee organization community as part of the federal government’s e-government initiative.  This tool lists the offices in each federal agency

FirstGov

This is an excellent first stop if you are searching for Federal funds and for supporting data.

Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance

http://www.cfda.gov

The CFDA is the main directory for federal grants.  This web site has everything that you need to get started.  Grant writers and agencies often refer to CFDA numbers, the identifier used by the government to identify each funding opportunity.

Federal Register Online

Announcements of all funding opportunities and deadlines must be listed in the Federal Register.  You can search by the CFDA number or with a description of the program.  Note The Grantsmanship Center Online has a great feature where they list the latest announcements and keep an archive by date.  Registration is free.
