I will post assignments to Blackboard and distribute in class.

Please complete and email contact sheet found in the handouts section to

Ana Mejia-Dietche at amejiadi@austincc.edu by the end of week 1.

Email answers to the questions below as a separate document. This document will be shared so that we can all get to know each other.

  1. Why are you taking this class?
  2. What would you most like to learn?
  3. Will you be focusing on the business proposal or a grant proposal?
  4. Please share a little about your background and work history. You may have special expertise that will help some or all of your classmates.

Theme: Describing the Organization and Project or Business Idea:

  • Know what six questions a grant proposal should answer.
  • Fill out Form 1.1 on page 9 in the Winning Grants book and the Basic Business Form on page 3 of The Successful Business Plan.
  • Develop the questions you would use if you were just starting to work with a client and email to me. We will share these questions identify common themes.
  • Note I will be out of town and offline from Wednesday, March 26th to Monday March 31st.

By Monday of Week 2, please select the business and/or nonprofit that you want to focus on in completing the exercises for this course and email me a one-paragraph description.

The organization may be real or invented, but I recommend using a real idea or business as a base. Fiction can take extra time! On the grant proposal front, I really encourage you to go to www.nonprofitaustin.org, select and contact an organization to work with as a volunteer or to come to me for some leads. Many organizations would be happy to have your help.
