Distribution
Pandinus imperator is typically found in hot, humid, African tropical forests. Some have allegedly been found in the savannas of the western African countries of Senegal, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Togo, Gabon and the Congo region. Most specimens collected for the pet trade are collected in Togo and Ghana. Due to years of potential over-collection, P. imperator has been placed on the C.I.T.E.S. II list to monitor their populations. Presently, they can still be imported with the proper permits, but that could change if export numbers drastically decline in number, indicating a possible adverse effect from over-collecting.
