These lights are designed for automotive use. I’ve driven with them turned on for about 1000 miles with no problems.
I’ve left them on for many hours as mine are presently wired directly to an always-hot circuit. My lights have been
left on for many 24-hour periods. The lights don’t run my battery down even when on for 48 hours. Mine have probably
been on several times longer than yours will ever be, since you will have them wired to only be on when in reverse.
I had 3 of my friends check them out in the dark at my garage and they all think they provide enough light to carefully
back up safely.
They are low on the car and back up under the body... so they don’t distract from the "CSX" look. When standing behind
the car, you have to be further away than about 15 feet to even see them at all.
They are visible to drivers from the side, so people in cars in parking lots should be able to see them. If you wire them
correctly, other drivers will even see them come on in the daylight or night, so they will know you are getting ready to back
up.
These lights clearly have two DOT stamps on them. So that should satisfy the CHP, etc. However, they certainly are not
TOO bright for the CHP etc.
However, these lights are not flood lights. I’ve been really open on this subject, because I want my customers to
be happy with what they receive.
Some additional ideas on backing: Some times when backing, your head lights will be blinding you, so some times when backing,
it helps to cut the headlights off. The rear running lights supplement the back up lights. Keeping your foot on the brake
pedal will also supply more light when backing. The brake lights of course are red light, red light does not reflect well.
But the bluish white light of these LEDs and your brake light will add together to help you back even better.
