Movie on life in Haiti

On Sunday, January 24, a large crowd gathered in Memorial Hall as part of a fundraiser for the Haiti Collaborative's work in Cerca la Source, Haiti. We enjoyed pizza, listened to Michele Edwards, one of the local coordinators of that project, as well as Patrick Eugene, a Haitian student at JMU, and Rev. Paul Nancarrow, rector of Trinity Episcopal Church. Then we watched the movie The Agronomist, a 2003 documentary film about the life and death of Haitian journalist and radio pioneer, Jean Dominique. It was an inspiring yet grimly realistic look at the hardships that the Haitian people have endured for many decades, and the courage and devotion of people who are fighting for social justice. The money raised at this event will go a long way toward helping the people of Haiti recover from the recent devastating earthquake in the months and years to come.
