Gardeners make the headlines
For the past several weeks, parishioners from Emmanuel have been gathering at the home of long-time members David and Jeanne Rapp, planting and tending the family's vegetable garden. For many years, the Rapps have brought their produce to the church almost every Sunday during the summer months, bringing in a substantial amount of donations. This year, Meneta Deaton has taken the lead in recruiting church members to help out, and has created a new blog to keep a record of the activities: Dave's garden stories. On Saturday, June 13, the Staunton News Leader had a prominent front-page article about this wonderful endeavor, complete with photographs. See newsleader.com.

Bishop Light visits Emmanuel
On Sunday, May 17, the Right Reverend A. Heath Light, fourth Bishop of the Diocese of Southwestern Virginia, paid a visit to Emmanuel on the occasion of the baptism of Margaret Lupton Cox and the reception of Robin Boylan into the Episcopal Church. After the eucharistic service was concluded, the congregation gathered in Memorial Hall for a reception in honor of the bishop.
