5 basic wine tasting steps:


1. Describe the color

White wine:  clear, pale yellow, straw yellow, yellow gold, gold, old gold, yellow brown
Red Wine:  purple, ruby red, red, brick red, red brown, brown

2. Swirl the wine and smell the bouquet

Describe the bouquet, aroma, nose:  aromatic, austere, apple, balanced,
big, bitter, corky, delicate, earthy, fruity, fresh, grapey, green, hot, heavy, light,
metallic, mouldy, nutty, spicy, tart, thin, tired, vanilla, woody, young. etc.

Describe the flavors: Sweet to dry

Acidity - yes/no, crisp or soft

Tannins - yes/no  Are they balanced? Well integrated with the fruit?

Savour:   light, medium or full bodied

For a white wine: How was the acidity? very little, just right or too much

For a red wine: is the tannin too strong or astringent? Is it pleasing?

Most importantly, did you like the wine? Comments
