One More Scouting Report

Last Updated 6 March 1996

Here is a Scouting Report that got overlooked in Mark Jareb's 1996 Scouting Report:

Glenn Gearhard:

He's 35 years old; he is an undrafted high school player out of Franklin Regional in 1978. This spring he is a non-roster, non-invitee to camp, but he's expected to have a late-spring shot in the Cactus League. He'll be checked out by the Angels, Cubs, A's, Padres, Giants and Mariners.
He has played every position but concentrated on catching and first base in high school. He also spent some time on the mound during batting practice. He has shown good control and can throw the ball for strikes. Low velocity on his fast ball and a non-existent breaking ball, his best pitch is a lazy fly ball hit to the left fielder who usually has to play deep.
Only average or slightly below average at bat, he probably won't hit above the 7th spot in the line up. A slightly below average arm, but above average first sacker and receiver with the leather. Speed? - he runs like a catcher. He's expected to play the rest of his career (if there is any part of it left) at first base.
He has displayed keen insight into the finer points of the game. He has been known to assist the team manager and base coaches by yelling, "Tag up!" on obvious fly balls and "Go, Go, Go" on wild pitches. He is best known around the various leagues by the beer vendors - they all have spoken highly of his baseball talents.
He spent most of last year in the Independent Western League, but also had a stint with San Jose of the Class A California League. He made it to the show for a cup of beer last year with Oakland, San Francisco and Pittsburgh. He's expected to see some mid-summer action with each of these teams in 1996. He's anticipating to be traded to the Carolina Leagues' Prince William Cannons after the '96 season.
Not a stellar prospect, but he can provide stadium filler at any level in the organization. He's worth keeping around.
Is there something here you like, that needs to be changed,
or would you like to see something that is not included?
