Here's a little info on my Marine Corps background:
- I was commissioned through the NROTC program at Penn State in May 1982.
- 1983-1985: As an infantry officer, my first tour of duty was with India
Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines based at Kaneohe, Hawaii.
I did 2 six-month deployments to the Western Pacific (and points
west) that took me through most of the Far East, into Somolia,
Kenya, and Beirut Lebanon. I served as a platoon commander for a
rifle platoon and a weapons platoon.
I also served as the Security Officer for Marine Air Group 24 in
Hawaii.
- 1985-1988: I had an assignment at Marine Barracks Washington DC
(8th & I) where I participated in countless ceremonies in and around
Washington. I served as a platoon commander, company Executive Officer, and
Assistant Operations Officer. I also served as a Social Aide at the White
House during the Reagan Administration.
- 1988-1992: After attending the Amphibious Warfare School in Quantico,
I was assigned as the Commanding Officer, Lima Company, 3rd Battalion,
1st Marines based at Camp Pendleton, California. We trained as the Ground
Combat Element for the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) and deployed to
Desert Shield/Storm as part of 5th MEB. The MEU remained on station in
the Arabian Gulf during the draw-down of Desert Storm forces. I was the
Commanding Officer of Troops aboard the USS Peoria (LST-1183) during the
nine-month deployment. After the unit's return to CONUS, I had a six-month
assignment as the Commanding Officer for Weapons Company 3/1.
- 1992-1994: I spent two years in Chicago, Illinois as the Assistant
Inspector-Instructor for 2nd Battalion, 24th Marines. The I-I
Staff also supported three other Reserve units in Chicago.
- 1994-1996: I completed the 27-month Information Technology Management
curriculum at The Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey California, in
September 1996 and received my Masters Degree.
- 1996-1998: I served 19 months at HQMC as a Systems Analyst in the Manpower
Information Systems (MIS) branch of the MI division. As a payback tour
from my Monterey schooling, I worked on systems that supported the Human
Affairs Division of HQMC.
- 1998-2000: In May 1998, my branch was transferred to the
Marine Corps Systems Command where I served as a Project Officer for Manpower
Information Systems.
- May 2000 - present: In May 2000, I transferred to the
Marine Corps Institute,
at Marine Barracks Washington DC where I served as the Deputy Director of the Institute and
the Commanding Officer for MCI Company. I retired in April 2003 after 21 years of service.
