Presidents Report Winter 2010

The cold front came just in time for Christmas, and I for one hope it leaves by New Year's Day. After living in Harbordale for 11 years I am accustomed to the beautiful South Florida weather. Check out the photo on our home page (Harbordale.com) of the Bridge Hotel, with its Christmas lights so bright. Thanks to the new owner, Jorge Ramas, for adding that bit of holiday cheer to the corner of Cordova and SE 15th Street.

What a year 2009 has been! We started out with candidate debates for Mayor and District IV Commissioner. The new City Commission has its hands full with budget woes and controversial decisions. Whichever side you come down on these issues it's a tough job.

Closer to the neighborhood we made a major effort to combat crime south of 17th street. Kudos to Donna Mergenhagen for starting the Crime Committee and Commissioner Rogers for making sure the City responded to our concerns. The Community Volunteer Corps sponsored a Crime Walk from the new Harbordale Park and it was a huge success. Residents report a major improvement in the area. Thanks to all the Harbordale members who helped; Paula, Ray, Dayna, Vicki, Ieal, Karen, Heather, Mike .......
