PRESIDENT'S REPORT WINTER 2012
As the New Year approaches we can reflect on our blessings here in Harbordale ...and our new TREES! It took us three years
but we completed the first round of our TREEmendous Program. In 2009, we voted to spend $2500 in partnership with the City's
Adopt a Tree Program in an effort to restore our tree canopy. As a result we now have three Live Oaks, five Pigeon Plums,
six Silver Buttonwoods and four Jatrophas, planted around the Harbordale Elementary School. In the past two years we planted
trees on residential streets on both sides of SE 17th Street. It's not easy to find locations for new trees (think overhead
wires) and property owners who are willing to water and look out for the trees until they get established. Thanks to Cindy
Lull for working with the school staff on watering the trees. Our next big job will be combining trees with the new sidewalks
that will be going in on Miami Road this summer.
