Presidents Message

Fall 2008


We are well into the fall season and that means elections here in Harbordale. Former House Speaker Tip O'Neil is credited with the quotation "All politics are local". The 2009 municipal elections involve a four-way race for Mayor of Fort Lauderdale and of particular concern to us a three-way race for our District Four Commissioner. Given the state of the economy and its impact on municipal affairs and services, you have to give these candidates credit for wanting to take on the job. It's our job to find out where they stand on the issues that mean the most to us.

The Harbordale Civic Association is sponsoring a Mayoral Candidate Forum at our regularly scheduled November 5 General Meeting. We are also working on a District Four Candidate Forum in January. Get the word out to your neighbors and encourage them to attend and hear the candidates respond to the Association's questions and ask some of your own.
