Guest Speaker: Asif Ali, Natural Resource Specialist II, Broward County Environmental Protection Department, Water Resource DivisionMr. Ali presented an informative history of the evolution of South Florida’s water systems and how we may help conserve and protect our water resources. President’s Report – Marilyn Mammano Update on 2008 Tax Return and 501 c 4 filing status The application for 501c 4 status is being prepared. The 2008 Tax return extension has been filed and the return has been prepared. No taxes will be owed if the profit shown is dedicated to community improvement projects. Heather Davies made a motion that was amended to read: We dedicate the 2008 RIG grant to community improvement projects. Vicki Eckels seconded the motion and the motion passed unanimously. State of Florida is requesting 2007 and 2008 filing of returns and penalties for not filing. Treasurer’s Report - Heather Davies Audit Committee Report Profit & Loss Statement for June 2009 submitted. Submitted by Vicki Eckels and Donna Mergenhagen (see attached) Committee Reports Update on HCA Crime Walk Update on Harbordale Treemendous Program HCA and CFLCA Centennial Project Donna Mergenhagen advised that the date would be September 18, or September 25, 2009. HCA will provide refreshments. Paula Pereira, Karen Anderson and Marilyn Mammano volunteered to assist in planning and organizing the event. Volunteers are also needed for the evening of the walk. Vickie Eckels reported that 10 applications are being processed. Donna Mergenhagen has been selected to serve on the CFLCA Centennial Committee (2011). She is requesting ideas for points of interest in Harbordale that may help portray the last 100 years. Several suggestions were made and will be researched by those offering the suggestions. A Tentative Information Sheet was provided. Feedback will be presented at the September 2009 Council meeting. New Business Cancel the August General Membership Meeting Formation of a Block Party Committee Posting HCA information Correspondence NCIP Grant Vicki Eckels made a motion: to cancel the August General Membership Meeting. Paula Pereira seconded; motion passed unanimously. A Block Party Committee is needed to contribute to celebrating the completion of the Intersection Design Project. Marilyn Mammano, Karen Anderson, Jeannie Burke and Cheryle Richardson volunteered to comprise the core group. An email blast will be sent seeking additional volunteers. Vicki Eckels suggested using the Bulletin Board at Cliff Lake Villas to post HCA events and volunteer opportunities. A letter of thanks was written to Mr. Drum and Mr. Abbott for their contribution toward the prize for the person submitting the most applications to the HCA Treemendous Program. Letters of thanks were written to Mr. Jack Loos and Mr. Robert Lansburgh for their generous contributions helping HCA meet the matching funds requirement for the NCIP grant. A letter was written to Mike Ramos expressing regret at his resignation from the HCA Executive Board and thanking him for the wonderful membership booklet he prepared.
