We thank you for your continuing loyal support!

IN the artisan tradition, we craft fine glycerin soaps for your face, body, hair  and  pets. We air-cure the bars for a month to develop their characteristic mildness and good lather. Hazelbrand soaps are not hard milled bars, because we don’t want them to be -- we prefer their lush nature as we know they will do the best job possible to keep your skin soft and supple. We love the age-old method, made without factory machinery, with artists at work in the quiet of the farm.

This is a whole food for skin and spirit. The skin has a vital job of respiration, protection and elimination of toxins. In the Chinese tradition  we are nurturing the "wei chi," the surface immune system, but the healing goes deep within. Nourishing olive oil gently forms the base. This important oil lets the skin breathe through a protective barrier; it allows the skin to exhale toxins out and draw nutrients in. But just as oils in food carry nutrients or toxins, our soaps, made from live oil will transport nutrients from your skin inward (this is why we only use the best ingredients). If you care what you put into your body, you will want to take care with what you put on your body.

Vegetables and fruits have been our first and primary cleansing materials since the beginning of time. To make these classic soaps we gather fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers at their peak: blueberries, carrots, corn, sage, cedar, rosemary and lavender,  even our heirloom tomatoes are as nutritious on the skin as they are to eat. We gather weeds, our Green Allies, for they have intense life force and skin-supportive properties. Every month of the year you will find us gathering nettles, plantain, chickweed, violets, barks, seeds or roots, as they come and go in season. We prepare these into our own herbal brew to infuse into the soaps to provide an undercurrent of sacred plant vitality and energy. We think it makes a subtle but definite difference as you experience our soap.

PERENNIAL FAVORITES

Buffalo Bird Women:  Named in honor of a Plains Indian woman and celebrated grower of corn. We blend Inca blue corn and sunflowers  with sage and cedar, all grown in our own “Buffalo Bird Woman” heritage garden that we have recreated here at Hazelbrand.

Lavender: Sink into the tub with this silky soap to calm panic or an irritable spirit and release pent-up Qi-energy.  Since ancient Rome herbalists have used lavender for its antibacterial and cleansing properties and to balance and harmonize all skin types. It makes a sensuous shampoo bar and is especially kind to mature skin.

Oceana: Salty air and herbs that grow near the sea get mixed with nutrient-rich seaweeds for deep cleansing.

Peppermint and Sage Scrub: Our peppermint bar with garden sage is refreshing, uplifting and helps keep bugs away. A good morning energizer.

Rosemary and Wild Nettles: Herb-flecked, invigorating and antibacterial, a cooling bar for skin and hair. Wild nettles from our pastures make your hair luxuriously thick.  We love this bar anytime, especially for sore muscles, joint pain or to heal itches and scratches from a day playing outside.

Spearmint & Eucalyptus: A sweeter mint and cooling tonic blend that opens up the lungs. A refreshing shampoo

The Root Doctor: Like the first herbalists we gather roots for this soap that are known for their ability to calm chronic skin conditions -- comfrey, Echinacea, burdock, sassafras, marshmallow and sweet gum, then add neem oil and  patchouli, another skin-healer with a delicious scent.

ZINNIA'S PRIDE MILK BARS

Named after Zinnia, matriarch of our goat herd. We stir fresh, organic milk into Italian olive oil to produce a creamy bar that balances all skin types and builds healthy skin. Active ingredients:

·     Butterfat: At 6% butterfat, goats’ milk is richer than cows milk, it absorbs quickly, transporting essential oils and   nutritive ingredients to dermal layers.

·     Lactose (milk sugar) softens skin and acts as an humectant, to moisten skin.

·     Protein (amino acids), the building blocks of collagen, build supple, beautiful skin, and rebuild damaged hair., create rich lather good for shampooing and shaving.

Lactic acid, a mild AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) turns skin glowing and luminescent; helps balance both oily and dry skin to normal. They work synergistically to stop oxidation of free radicals

     We offer it five ways:

Buttermilk: Pure milk and nothing else. If you have extra sensitive skin, give this unscented bar a try.

Lavender and Violets: We infuse delicate violets to capture their cooling, soothing qualities. You can't see the violets, but we hope you will feel their subtle effects to moisten and regenerate. Purple swirls on a white background.

Old Roses: A lush blend of antique musk roses and cream acts as a gentle tonic for the heart and softens skin.

Milky Oats and Sassafras: Calming oatmeal, milk and sassafras work together to calm inflamed skin problems.

Tea Tree: Antibacterial and deodorant, immune stimulant, tonifies Qi energy, mental fatigue controls acnes.                                                                                                                                             .

WE’RE GOING TO TELL YOU THE FACTS, STRAIGHT UP.

We know you love Hazelbrand soaps, even though they can be idiosyncratic. They don’t always behave themselves. The natural colors, coming from nature, aren't always the same, and sometimes they fade. Sometimes the olive oil comes up around the edges and it makes you question if the soap has passed its prime (it hasn’t). You know that their soft lushness sometimes fades into a soft lump and may  look a little less than the perfect "milled" European bar that never, never changes shape, color or smell (hmmmm). But don't give up on us! That little lump is alive. It's vital energy is still the best gift you can give your skin.
