Jonathan requested a Buzz Lightyear for his 5th birthday cake. It was quite a challenge to figure out how to do it since no one manufacturers a shaped pan for this character. I ended up sculpting the cake by hand out of a half sheet cake (chocolate) and a quarter sheet cake (lemon). All of the buttons, gadgets, badges, stars, and Buzz's face are made from handcrafted chocolate pieces. I did break down and put a "plastic" bubble over Buzz's head for his helmet since I couldn't figure out a way to make an edible clear helmet that would give the look I wanted. This was the first time I've tried any kind of pattern transfer and I was very pleased with the way the technique worked out. I learnt a lot on this cake.
