| Well, after much ado, I've finally finished my cake for display at the 2002 ICES Nashville convention. I'm really nervous about displaying my work publicly next to so many professional decorators and the likes of Nicholas Lodge, Colette Peters and Roland Winbeckler. I can only hope that their work is way the other side of the gallery! Still, I gave this my best shot. I've only been doing this for two years and had no classes, so figure that it's okay that I still have so much to learn. This cake marks my very first attempt at gumpaste work and hand modelling figures. Boy, was that ever a learning experience! Everything on this cake is handmade and legally edible (although I don't think I'd like to tuck into the gumpaste myself!). It's hard to tell but the window panes (looks like glass) is actually sheet gelatin cut to size. All the pieces other than the orange and blue fondant work on the pumpkin were modelled in white gumpaste and hand painted with edible paint. I sincerely hope you like this one, and that it makes it to Nashville in one piece! |
