Abigail said she'd like a cake with a palm tree and sand for her luau theme birthday party. I thought this might fit the bill. Everything on the cake is handmade and edible. The animals, shells, flowers, people, and bark on the palm trees were all made from hand painted fondant. The palm leaves were potato starch paper sprayed with the new Betty Crocker green decorating spray and then individually cut out and shaped. I used piping gel to stick them onto the tree trunks. The sun and signpost were handcast chocolate. The sea was a combination of buttercream icing and blue piping gel. It doesn't show in the photos but I even had some fish in the sea at the front of the island and a few trapped in the rock pool! The sand is simply graham cracker crumbs. I hope you like it - this one was lots of fun to do!
