I designed this cake for Nicholas' 9th. birthday. He is an incredibly talented young man who has spent the last three days performing the child lead in a wonderful Christmas musical production, "Four tickets to Christmas". I thought this would be an appropriate theme for his special day and tried to really personalize it for him. Everything is handmade and edible. The train, caboose, tree trunks, tickets, snowman, Christmas tree, little boy, and side lettering are all chocolate. The rest is all buttercream decoration with powdered sugar sprinkled on the trees to look like snow. Everything is designed to look like the play - town name on sign, old steam train, outfit that the little boy wears, etc. I tried to make the front and back look like the marquee on an old theatre - I thought Nicholas might enjoy his name in lights! I added the footprints in the snow to try and add some "life" into the scene (in my experience, little boys don't often stand still in the snow!). Hope you like it!
