This is Jonathan's 4th. birthday cake, and it marks my one year anniversary of self-taught cake decorating! Jonathan said he wanted an "Octopus's Garden" birthday, just like the old Beatles song which he loves! I had so much fun designing and making this cake. Every bit of it is edible and handmade (except the tiny chocolate rocks which I had left over from the Grand Canyon cake and had to do something with them!). The coral is royal icing, the shells, critters, fish, signposts etc. are coloured chocolate, the sand is graham cracker crumbs! The cave was made of sculpted chocolate cake, the base was yellow cake. It took a lot of time, but I think it was worth it. Jonathan loved it!
