| I made this cake for a teacher luncheon at my children's school. It was to honour the teachers who had birthdays in October. I liked the idea of a Fall/scarecrow theme - that's the nice thing about donating a cake - you get to do whatever you want!!!! The cake is chocolate fudge on the lower cake and golden vanilla on the top with chocolate buttercream frosting all over. I made the scarecrow, crow, and pumpkins on the top of the cake out of gumpaste. They were made in white and hand-painted with edible paint. All of the leaves and pumpkins on the sides of the cake were made with wedding white chocopan so that they could be eaten. The leaves were cut, veined, and brushed (after drying)with lustre dust individually, and the side pumpkins were painted with edible paint. I felt like I never wanted to see another leaf by the end of the night I can tell you! I was really nervous that I wouldn't have made enough tiny leaves to go around (it was pure guess work as to how many I'd need)- I finished decorating with 25 tiny leaves left over. Thank the Lord it worked out!
I was disappointed in my photography on this one. Even my husband thought that the cake looked a lot better in person. The background was too dark for all the chocolate frosting, and the crow does not show up so well. In real life the crow was really perky! I hope you like it anyway! |
