I designed this cake for my mum's birthday. Being British I thought a nice tea party would be the order of the day! The basic idea came from a mini cake suggestion in the Wilton 2001 yearbook (p.23)and a teddy bears picnic cake from "The Ultimate Book of Birthday Cakes" (p.119). I thought the pets peeking out from under the table cloth would add some life to the scene, and personalize it for my mother. The dog represents my sister's family dog, Annie, and the cat represents my own families cat, Snorv. Everything on the cake is handmade and edible. The teapot, bone, and chinaware are all handcast chocolate, and the dog, cat, flowers, tablecloth, and finger foods are all fondant. In case you're interested the menu consisted of strawberry tarts, ham sandwiches on whole wheat, cheese on white bread, and sausage rolls! Happy Birthday Mum - we love you!
