Servicing the side and center stands

General info:

The service manual calls for servicing the side stand pivot every 6,000 miles/10,000km. No service period is listed for the centerstand.

The manual lists "Staburags NBU 30 PTM high performance lubricating paste" as the lubricant. I used my trusty Sta-lube axle grease.

Instructions from Cyclerob, from R1150R.net:

Well, It's a Holiday today and it's raining. I remembered my side and centerstands are way overdue for their cleaning and regreasing of the pivot bushings - - - so I abandon the stupid TV and head off to the garage with my Mavica camera in hand.

If you're like most people you'll be able to do these two jobs AND you prolly won't have a pair of external snapring pliers with the smallest prongs for the sidestand switch. Not necessary to have the snapring pliers if you're real patient and careful with a small screwdriver to gently pry it off while covering it with your finger. The text in the pics tell the story:

(Sorry, the pics are down temporarily due to loss of the server hosting them. Hope to get them back up soon...)

Remove the springs before you remove the bolts. You'll need both 10mm allens to loosen the centerstand bushings. The one on the other side needs to be held while you loosen the one on your side.

When re-installing the centerstand, remember to put the large washers between the engine and the stand pivot on both sides before you insert the greased bushings.
The sidestand mounting bolt should be tight so the yoke is solidly holding the bushing to make it turn with the stand and not pivot on the bolt and bushing interface.

Additional comments from ScottMCFE:

Cyclerob , on my 2002 roadster there is a small dimple on the upper journal of the side stand (frame tab) This dimple actually terminates to a 1/16" hole. There is a tapered needle grease gun adapter that fits this dimple an allows me to force grease into the journal . This is the same adapter that I use to lube my K75 center stand with the dimple setup. I don't know if they are all set up this way , but mine is.
