Rudy Arnold was the only photographer at Floyd Bennett Field in the pre-dawn hours of July 17, 1938 who was able to record Corrigan preparing his rickety Curtiss Robin "Sunshine" for what was thought to be a non-stop flight attempt to California. Here Corrigan is seen performing last-minute maintenance on his barely air-worthy plane just before he took-off for his historic non-stop flight to Ireland.
