Question: Here is a hand (my partner) and I got a bottom on. I hold: AXXX QXXX JX XXX With opps passing, p opens 1D, I bid 1H, P bids 2C. What do I bid now? Was my 1H bid a mistake? Now, assume diamonds are XXX and clubs are XX. Same question? Enjoy the holidays! My two cents worth, The 1H bid was perfectly fine. Now, based on the auction given, I would Expect partner to have at least 5 diamonds and 4 clubs and somewhere between 12-18 points. You have a minimum hand for a response, so the choices for bids would be between passing 2C and bidding 2D. Generally, I would opt for diamonds, but with a hand like this one: KJXX QJXX XX XXX I would have reasonable major suit strength which might protect partner from having to ruff, but still not a hand good enough to bid 2NT (@10HCP), I might consider opting pass 2 clubs, giving my partner a chance for a ruff or two in diamonds to set up that suit. Even then, it might be iffy. On the second one, I would bid 2D without hesitation. John
