
1924-1988
Juan Quirindongo Morell was born in Ponce, the 3rd of January of 1924. He was son of Don Juan Francisco Quirindongo of Peñuelas, and Doña Francisca Morell, of Ponce. He had four brothers who were Eloy, Vicente, Ines and Reyes Maria. His first years of schooling was in Ponce, “the Pearl of the South” where he finished his primary and secondary education.
At 18 years of age, he was drafted into the Army of the United States of America. There he reached rank of the sergeant, and obtained correspondence certificates. He was stationed in Vega Baja Tortuguero Army Base, where he met the lady from Vega Baja whom he married on the 1st of July 1946. She became his faithful and loyal companion all his life, Doña Carmen Laura Martinez.
In the University of Puerto Rico, he graduated with a Bachelor in Education, majoring in Industrial Arts. In addition, he obtained diplomas of Ebanistería, Bakery, and Repostería, Detective, Photographer, Printer and others.
In the Bajadero School of Arecibo, he began a long career as a teacher that lasted 36 years. In the Intermediate School Sandín Angel Martinez Vega Baja, he taught and educated countless generations in the Industrial Arts until 1975.
From 1975 until 1988 when he died, he taught classes of Graphical Arts in the Vega Baja High School, Lino Padron Rivera.
In 1972 and 1973, he was selected Teacher of the Year in the Scholastic Vega Baja valley District, Region of Arecibo and also Teacher of the Year of the entire island of Puerto Rico.
He also represented Puerto Rico in an Atlantic City Convention where he received an endless number of plaques and commendations.
He was declared “Adopted son of Vega Baja,” the town he served with deep love and respect, and in which he spent most of his life.
In the political field, he also served Vega Baja as assemblyman representing the district of Rio Abajo.
A High School in Vega Baja was named to honor Juan Quirindongo Morell.


Juan Quirindongo Morell was a mark of excellence in the classes he taught as a happy consequence of his union with his wife, Carmen Laura Martinez. Together they had an exemplary family of ten children.
