KIRING DONGO
KIRINDONGO
QUIRINDONGO
GENEALOGY
Dear mister Quirindongo,
The only reference found regarding Kirindongo-Oost Divisie ( which means “East Division” ) is found in the historical publication of J. Hartog; Curaçao, van kolonie tot autonomie, Deel II., 1961. ( Curaçao, from colonial dependence to autonomy). On page 286 writes about trouble with the militia of Kirindongo- Oost divisie in 1821.
We double-checked this information with the National Archives and they confirmed that this is the first and only mention of Kirindongo in the history of Curaçao. As far as can be checked.
More information regarding the history of this village requires an investigation where the elderly people have to be intervieuwed to gather more historical data. This is the case for quit a few villages of Curaçao.
I can furthermore inform you that there is no information regarding the meaning of the slavenames. The National Archives register the names but they don’t investigate the meaning and/or origin of the names. We do know however that most names were derived from the names of the owners or places the enslaved belonged to.
Hoping that the above mentioned information is according to your request,
I remain with kind regards,
Lianne Leonora
