The origin of our surname is Donk or Donck or Van der Donk or Van de Donk and at this time Verdonk or Verdonck and some are still VanderDon(c)k.

8e centenary dungus, dungo, later dunga or dunghan
11e till 15e centenary dunc or donc
In 1134 Dungia at Mechelen in (that time Zuidelijke Nederlanden tranbsl. Southern Netherlands) now Belgisch Vlaanderen transl. Belgium Flanders.

2. Donk is an place of protection.

Both explanations have somthing similar:
