Thank you for visiting. I felt it was important to include some basic background information on the site. If you are considering
working with me, I invite you to contact me by phone or e-mail should you wish further information and/or references.
My business philosophy is a simple one. I believe that, working in a responsible manner, it is possible for the musician
to achieve their objectives with the integrity of all intact. I believe this is true when planning a restoration or during
the acquisition of the instrument. As I was a player, I understand all sides of this issue.
I studied with Tschu Ho Lee at the Chicago School of Violin Making. During school, my experience was enhanced by assisting
conservator Dudley Greeley of Evanston and violin maker Marilyn Wallin in her Wilmette shop. After graduation I took a position
with Shar in Ann Arbor assisting David Burgess making new instruments and performing restoration work.
A few years later, I was asked to manage Shar's old instrument division. My stay with the company was 17 years in total,
the last 8 as Vice President of Shar Fine Instruments. Responsibilities included company & client acquisitions, sales,
restorations, and appraisals as well as administration.
My position with the firm allowed me the opportunity to work and consult directly with many fine makers and restorers
including Anton Smith, Mark Norfleet, and Oliver Radke. The exposure to great players, instruments and bows was inestimable.
In May of 2003, I took my leave to work in my own studio where I offer restoration, appraisal, expertise, new making and
sales of old and contemporary instruments & bows.
I am a member of the Appraisers Association of America and presently serve on the board of directors for the Chicago school
of Violin Making and as Treasurer on the board of directors for the Violin Society of America.
I look forward to working with you.
