Who We Are
The Boeing Employees' Sailing Club - St. Louis provides recreational
sailing opportunities to Boeing employees, retirees, contract employees
and customer representatives and their immediate families in the St.
Louis area. We provide a full schedule of racing, cruising and fun
get togethers throughout the sailing season. In addition we
provide sailing lessons and inexpensive boat rental.
What We Sail
The Boeing Employees' Sailing Club owns several ChryslerMutineers.
These are easy to sail sit-in 15 ft. fiberglass sloops. They are
designed to be sailed with a skipper and one crew member but they can
accommodate up to 4 people. These boats are available for
rental. Contact the club for more information. In addition,
club members own many types and sizes of sail boats from Sunfish and
Snarks to a 36 ft. ocean racing catamaran.
Where We Sail
Sharing the lake with a barge. (They're slow
and you can see them from a long way off)
Club members are also associate members of Valley Sailing
Association and are entitled to use their facilities on Alton Lake
near Portage Des Sioux in St. Charles County. This is where our
boats are stored and sailed and where we race. From time to time
we also host events at other lakes in the area such as Creve Coeur Lake
in Missouri and Lake Carlysle in Illinois. Members also take
advantage of other sailing opportunities all over the world.
Racing
Wednesday Night
Racing
In conjunction with Valley Sailing
Association we provide many racing opportunities. We host a
Wednesday night racing series that brings together beginning sailors and
experienced skippers for evenings of relaxed competition. Separate
trophies are given for the beginning and experienced skippers.
Often we also participate in the Valley Sailing Association Sunday
racing series. There are several special events sponsored by the
club or by Valley Sailing in which we participate. These include
the Governor's Cup regatta, the Around the Islands race, and the
Pumpkin Regatta. Contact the club for more information on these
events.
Alton Lake at Sunset
Cruising
The area around Valley Sailing provides many opportunities for day
sails in a beautiful setting. We have sailed to Portage Des Sioux
for lunch or to Elsa Bar for a picnic on a small sand island. From
Valley it is possible to sail to Grafton at the mouth of the Illinois
river or to many other small and medium sized islands. We have
also taken trips on Lake Carlysle to enjoy members' boats and beautiful
scenery.
Fun
We often schedule parties at Valley or at the homes of members.
And after a day of racing we gather under the pavilion at Valley or meet
at a local establishment to relive the day's events and enjoy good
company. We also participate in the Valley Sailing annual fall and
spring banquets held at local restaurants.
Information
We have books, magazines and videos which cover racing, cruising,
navigation and seamanship skills, all available to the club
member. And we have a wealth of experience in our members who are
always willing to answer questions.
