Buttonhole Shoulderbag
Knit Felted Buttonhole Bag Variation
Unpattern, Knit or Crochet: With single or double strand and needles/hook that knits comfortably, garter stitch
or sc a bottom (square, round, eye-shaped, whatever) that is 1.5 to 2 times the desired finished size. Pick up
or continue in the round, changing colors & insterting fair-isle or intarsia as desired. When actual FELTED
desired height is acheived, start to dec 2 st's each side every 4 rows or so, using a stitch marker (paperclips work great).
(This is a good time to change colors again.) To form shoulder-straps, count the number of stitches around and make
sure you have an even number on each side of the bag. Divide the side into a middle 2/3's with 1/3 divided evenly between
the opening and the stitch marker, although it will actually be a full 1/3 between each bound-off area. Knit Directions:
Bind the stitches off from the middle toward the 2 sides if possible, crossing the middle stitches for strength.
Knit the 1/3 handle parts that aren't being bound off. Crochet Directions: skip Knit Directions. Next row,
cast on approximately 100-120 st and resume knitting or sc'ing after skipping middle 2/3's of each side. Work approximately
6-8 rows, as desired, dec'ing 1 st at each strap juncture each row. Bind off loosely if knitting. For
clasp, ch 15 and sew loop into middle of 1 side's opening. Felt. Sew finding on side opposite loop.
