January 31, 2006:
Summerwings and crew have relocated several miles north of La Paz to a brand new
marina called Costa Baja. Rates are cheaper and it is part of a development that includes the Fiesta Inn hotel where
Ken's mom, sister and nieces will be staying when they visit in mid-February. During their visit we plan to go whale
watching in Magdelena Bay where it may even be possible, ceatacens (sp?) permitting, to touch grey whales.
We've gone hiking in the hills and are enjoying the Portifinoesque atomosphere
of the new marina. This weekend was the first annual International Mini-Golf Tourney in which Ken shared second place.
While "Swedish hottie" Jane has gone to Seattle for a few weeks (and then on to Sweden to visit her mother), we've been enjoying
the company of Fisherman Bob who is located on the same dock here at Costa Baja. Nice dinners, good cocktails, and bad
puns abound.
January 8, 2006: With Admiral Kim out
of town, the boys of Summerwings invited Swedish hottie Jane (and her husband Bob) out for a day on La Paz Bay today.
Bob is an accomplished fisherman and both he and Ken brought in small Skipjacks that were promptly released. Ken had
the most interesting day, scoring a fish and fowl double, by also catching a pelican which was also released. Bob &
Jane showed Ken and the boys some great anchorages around the bay and we sailed back to La Paz under jib alone making 5 knots
in 12 knots of wind. Neither Bob nor Jane had sailed on a cat before and pronounced it "quite civilized". Bob
also felt we should have kept the pelican stating that they tasted like a cross between "Spotted Owl and Bald Eagle".
Upon returning to the marina, we were all invited aboard Mike's 56' catamaran "Good News",
for cold drinks and the end of the Pittsburgh-Cincinati wildcard game.
The crew is excited two major "returns" this week. First and foremost is that of the Admiral of
Summerwings and secondly the return of the officail DJ of Summerwings, Howard Stern, as he begins broadcasting on Sirius satellite
radio tomorrow morning. The entire crew plans to awake at 4 AM Monday morning to catch the live broadcast from New York.
Life is silly but great!!!!
