Lethargy, your name spawns the evil that beseeches my being
to drag tail. Well, no, not really. I haven’t been too lazy of late. I’ve just
been dealing with a cubic-butt-ton of busyness. How much is a cubic-butt-ton,
you may ask? Well, it’s half of a metric-butt-ton, but since I’m from the United States, I blatantly refuse to measure the world in
metric.
Yes, much has happened since the last post. Cindy and I
went to NAMM (the last time in Nashville), I had some gigs, saw Michael Manring
play, saw the Flecktones play, BassUp!
Site went online (www.bassup.net), I finished the album, a player dropped out of BassUp!, and I booked a few more gigs for Trip Wamsley (www.tripwamsley.com) and me for the end of September and the beginning of October. Do you really want to hear all this? Sure you do!
NAMM was groovie. Cindy and I went to the Bass Player 15th
Anniversary party thanks to two passes connived off of Bill Leigh. Thanks, Mr. Leigh! The party was packed, and tons of the
who’s who of the bass player community were there. The show was awesome as well. Bass Player did a cool little write up about
it in the Brian Wilson issue. If you look really, really closely at one of the
photos, you’ll see my big bullum head way in the back. Cindy’s beautiful cranium is right behind mine. Well, I won’t go on
and on about the party. Read about it in Bass Player…
My gigs were cool and fun as usual. I played Ashton’s, Jatema a few times, and a private party at Icon for the English Department of Georgia
State University. Highlights include, but are not
limited to: my student, Nick, playing a tune with me at Jatema (look on the gig photos page), my Boomerang crapping it’s pants
whilst I was performing a very difficult loop song, my performance of most of the tunes from the new CD (see, you shouldn’t
miss my gigs), and me playing a bunch of new covers at Icon. Many other cool things happened. You should come to the next
gig.
The BassUp! Website is up and running. Go see it at www.bassup.net. Cindy put it all together, doesn’t she rock seven kinds of bootay? That’s a rhetorical question. At
least I got to do the logo. Cindy made it blue. I of course designed it in a green color. Speaking of Bassup!, Adam Nitti had to drop out unfortunately. He has some touring
conflicts with the Stephen Curtis Chapman tour. His departure was made official as of the end of August. I’m scrambbling to get someone to fill the slot. So, if you are a bassists that plays solo or plays bass-centric
music in a band, have a following, and can play an hour long set, you need to contact me. BassUp! is October 9th.
Be there. As for you Adam Nitti lovers (I’m one as well), don’t worry. We may be able to fit him in for the next BassUp!
Okay folks, the new album is being run as we speak. Hopefully
it will be available for the upcoming shows in Jackson, MS;
Conway, AR; Fayetteville,
AR; and Atlanta. Check my gig calendar for
those dates. The CD will also be available soon online at CD Baby (www.cdbaby.com). Come to the shows to hear Trip and me. If you haven’t heard Trip play, you must do so this very
instant. Also, to you bass players out there, I’ve just joined an online community at www.extendedrangebassist.com . Go check it out. Ta for now…
