I wrote this song during my final term at The Atlanta Institute of Music and ended up playing it during
my graduation recital. This was the first piece I wrote incorporating the use of looping. I used my Warwick
Thumb Bolt-on six string bass, the thirty second loop on a Line 6 Delay Modeling pedal (that pedal now resides at
East Hall Studios), and a little bit of Ebow. The loop doesn't begin until the middle of the song after the harmonics-filled
beginning.
The song is about a dream I had as a younger person. The dream was quickly promoted to a waking
scheme, and then the scheme fell a rank to become a daydream I fancied when stuck in the arduous classes that made
up the second grade (sorry Mrs. Tolliver). So while I should have been practicing my cursive "r"s, I would linger on
the thought of making cardboard frames, wrapping them in Saran Wrap, and attaching them to my arms in
hopes attaining flight by flailing my arms wildly. It was a brilliant idea, I must say. Maybe it spawned from
reading too many Masters of the Universe comics (can you read too many?). Unfortunately, my scheme only worked in my
dreams, so I had to write this song about it to keep the dream feeling alive.
So when you listen to it, try to envision a slightly chunky kid building a set of groovie wings, flapping his arms while
running, making a successful take off, and soaring into pastel purple and blue clouds while his slightly translucent wings
shimmer the Sun's reflection. Hope you enjoy!
