"Third Circle" is my third attempt at composing a loop song, which kind of inspired my play
with numbers in this song. I believe I composed it sometime during fall of 2000. I recorded "Third Circle"
using my Thumb Bolt-on six string bass and a Line 6 Delay Modeling pedal. The loop was recorded live
in real time. We just let the loop record for a few minutes, then I came back and put the melody and solo on top
of it. Simple as that...
I have a strong belief that music can be used to be an aural representation of math. "Third
Circle" is filled with math and concepts that are best explained using a numerical alphabet. I'm going to spare the
boring details, but be aware of the existence of equations in the song. If you think you've figured it out, email me.
(hint: check out a periodic table)
I will, however, point out my blatant use of the number three and circular concepts in form
(and reason)... hense the name of the song. In our solar system, which planet is ours? What path does that planet
travel?...well, that's more of an ellipse, but it would look like a circle from a certain perspective. Which layer of
the planet do we inhabit: the core (1), the mantle (2), or the crust (3)? Are you starting to get the drift?
Think more about the appearance of three... Lyman series in atoms (look it up!!!), relegion... I'm giving away too much.
Listen to the song and think about it....
