We took a cruise on the Li River, from Li Jiang to Yangshuo. The cooks prepared a wonderful lunch on the back porch of the boat (including turtle soup and candied sweet potato). The surreal limestone peaks of the Guilin region are quite beautiful. Legend has it that the King of All Under Heaven wielded a magic whip to drive the hills toward the South Sea in a mad attempt to fill up the oceanic realm of his rival, the Dragon King. The Shark Girl stole the whip made from goddess hair, so he was forced to abondaon this scheme. Ever since, the hills have remained where they are. |
