| KP says the most amazing thing she saw in China was the colossal Maitreya Buddha at the Yonghegong Lamasery in Beijing (Tibetan Buddhist temple of the Yellow Hat sect, whose spiritiual leader is the Dalai Lama). It stands 85 feet high and is carved from a single piece of sandalwood which was carted here from Nepal. Upon entering the Tower of 10,000 Happinesses, you have to look nearly straight up in order to see the statue's face. Unfortunately, tourists are not permitted to photograph it. | |||||||||||||||
